A Psalm of Celebration for the Woman I Have Become

O LORD, You have searched me and known me;
You knew me before I knew myself.
You saw me when my hair was still gold;
You see me now as silver overtakes it.

I have passed through fire, O God;
I have walked through waters that rose around me.
I cried to You from the darkness;
You met me where the light could not reach.

You gathered what was broken;
You bound up what was wounded.
You took the pieces I could not mend
and knit me together again.

The seams still show;
the scars still tell their stories.
I do not hide them from You, Lord,
for You were there when they were made.

You see me, Lord—
my armor dented, my knees weary,
my face marked by sorrow and laughter,
my strength different from what it once was.

I have fallen, yet I have risen;
I have grieved, yet I still know joy.
The fire changed me,
but it did not consume me.

For You have been my refuge,
the rock beneath my feet.
When my strength failed, Yours remained;
when I could not stand, You held me fast.

So steady me when I falter;
renew me when I am weary.
Teach me when to take up my armor
and when to lay it down.

Take the days that remain, O Lord;
teach me to number them with wisdom.
Give me a few good words worth speaking,
and a life that makes them true.

You knew the woman I was;
You see the woman I am.
You know the woman I am yet becoming;
my days to come are already in Your hands.

Broken and reknit,
scarred and still becoming,
silver-haired and still standing—
I am Yours, O God.
Use all of me.
