A Prayer for the Brokenhearted

Gracious and loving God,

We come to You carrying what feels too heavy for words.

We carry grief we cannot resolve.
We carry questions that do not have answers.
We carry the quiet ache of “if only” that follows loss like a shadow.

Be near to all who are grieving today—especially those walking through sudden loss, those sitting in silence because words are too small, and those who are simply trying to make it through the next moment.

Hold them when they cannot hold themselves.

For families whose sorrow feels overwhelming,
for those navigating days that no longer feel familiar,
for those who feel unseen in their pain—

be their steady presence.

And for all who are struggling in hidden ways, in exhaustion or despair or loneliness—

send connection where isolation is growing.
send gentleness where shame has taken hold.
send presence where words cannot reach.

Teach us, O God, to be people who do not turn away from suffering.
Give us courage to stay, to listen, to be present, to love without needing to fix what cannot be fixed.

And when we do not know what to say,
remind us that presence itself can be enough.

Stay close to the brokenhearted.
Stay close to those who feel they are barely holding on.
Stay close to all of us who are trying to believe we are not alone.

And in Your mercy, hold us through this day.

Amen.
