Loving and nurturing God,
You who gather us close like a mother holding her child,
You who comfort and steady us in every season of life,
we come before You with grateful hearts.
On this day, we give thanks for mothers—
for those who gave us life, who carried us before they ever knew our faces,
who fed us, guided us, corrected us, and loved us in ways both seen and unseen.
For their strength, their tenderness, their sacrifices, and their prayers,
we thank You.
We also give thanks for the many who have mothered us along the way.
For grandmothers, aunts, sisters, mentors, neighbors, and friends
who stepped in with care when we needed it most.
For fathers who carried both roles with courage and compassion.
For all who have nurtured, protected, and shaped our lives with steady love.
For the women who could not bear children, yet have mothered anyway—
whose love has not been limited by biology or circumstance,
but who have gathered others to their bosom with steady, self-giving care.
For those who have offered wisdom, shelter, encouragement, and belonging,
we give You thanks, O God.
Their nurturing has been a reflection of Your own heart among us.
We remember, too, that this day holds more than celebration alone.
For some, it brings grief—for mothers who are no longer here.
For children who are deeply missed.
For relationships that are strained or broken.
For those who long to be mothers but carry that hope unfulfilled.
For all who carry quiet sorrow today, we ask for Your gentle nearness.
God of all comfort,
You do not limit love to biology or definition.
You see every act of care, every moment of patience, every sacrifice made in love.
You know the hidden ways Your children have nurtured one another.
So form us into a people who reflect Your heart—
who nurture, encourage, protect, and strengthen one another.
Teach us to love with the steady, faithful, and enduring love You have shown us.
Bless all who have shaped us with care,
and all who continue to offer life-giving love in its many forms.
May Your peace rest upon them, and Your grace sustain them.
And may we go forward as people who carry Your nurturing spirit into the world—
loving as we have been loved,
and tending to one another with grace.
Amen.
